Innovation Saskatchewan supports Saskatchewan’s research community and technology sector to create economic growth and diversity. As the central innovation agency for the Government of Saskatchewan, Innovation Saskatchewan is responsible for implementing the province's innovation priorities and growing the technology sector. Innovation Saskatchewan develops policies and programs and conducts activities that assist in the implementation of research & development, science, and technology for the province. This includes development and operation of Saskatchewan’s research and technology parks in Saskatoon and Regina.
 

The Opportunity

Are you a talented communicator with a knack for storytelling? Innovation Saskatchewan is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our team for an 18-month term. It's a chance to make a real impact, where your words help celebrate and support the province’s innovators.

As a Communications Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of crafting and sharing compelling content and executing strategic communication plans that resonate. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where ideas flow freely, and creativity fuels results. You won’t be going it alone—our experienced Senior Manager of Communications and Executive Director of Communications & Marketing will provide guidance and mentorship.

Primary Responsibilities

 Duties include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Collaborating with leadership to develop and execute communication plans.
  • Developing feature stories and case studies about Saskatchewan’s innovation ecosystem from start to end, including researching, pitching, interviewing, writing and promoting.
  • Creating other communications materials, such as website copy, social media and newsletter content, career ads, news releases, presentations and print collateral.
  • Maintaining editorial calendars for content planning and promotion.
  • Managing the agency’s social media channels, including scheduling posts, engaging with users and evaluating tactics.
  • Recording and analyzing metrics related to communications strategies.
  • Perform additional duties or projects as assigned.


What We Want from You

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or 4+ years of commensurate experience.  
  • Advanced-level copywriting skills for variety of formats and styles.
  • Experience maintaining social media channels for a professional company or government organization.
  • Proven ability to develop original content in alignment with strategic communications best practices.
  • Confident social and verbal communications skills
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Passion to seek out and share stories from new angles and diverse perspectives.
  • Initiative-driven and self-motivated.
  • Unwavering integrity and ethical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Dedication to fostering a flexible and supportive work environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Innovative, adaptable and committed to excellence in all areas of work
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO), and social media and newsletter management tools a bonus!
