As a member of the Technical Operations team at Innovation Saskatchewan, the Senior Manager, Building Operations will lead a skilled team of technicians, tradespeople and administrative professionals to ensure the safe, effective and efficient operation and maintenance of buildings in the Saskatoon park.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Technical Operations and Asset Management, the Senior Manager, Building Operations oversees the operation and maintenance management program and drives operational efficiencies and effectiveness to ensure our internal and external stakeholders’ needs are met. Through a process of continuous improvement, the Senior Manager, Building Operations keeps the team updated on current operation and maintenance management principles, identifies, recommends and implements changes for best practices, and demonstrates the behaviours and actions that support a safe and constructive culture.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing and directing the operation and maintenance for all research and office spaces at Saskatoon park
  • Providing effective leadership to the team daily and during times of change and fostering an open environment of teamwork and collaboration
  • Planning, managing and overseeing the preventative maintenance program for all equipment and building operations
  • Coordinating activity of building operations employees to ensure all maintenance is performance in a prompt and cost-efficient manner
  • Liasing with Property Managers to ensure tenant service experiences are aligned with agency values and to help develop and implement strategies to promote tenant retention and expansion
  • Coordinating with Project Managers during construction processes and collaborating to provide cost-effective recommendations and improvements
  • Preparing, administering and managing documentation and budgets, including the operating and maintenance budgets, monthly financial statements and purchased materials reports
  • Reviewing lease agreements and proposed agreements for impact on operation and maintenance budgets to ensure tenants’ needs can be met
  • Other duties as assigned

 

What We Want from You

  • Comprehensive understanding of the National Building Code, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems and construction trades
  • Strong understanding of budgets, forecasting, financial reporting, and legal and contractual issues
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including the ability effectively delegate and empower employees to achieve desired results
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a constructive and supportive work environment
  • Strong judgement, initiative and decision-making skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills with proven ability to solve complex problems and issues
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to deliver on initiatives and projects in an environment of constant change
  • Knowledge in Occupational Health & Safety legislation, specifically supervisor responsibilities in the workplace health and safety system
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
  • 7-10 years of experience with the operations and maintenance of commercial building preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar leadership position with people management responsibility preferred
  • Professional Applied Science Technologist and/or Inter-Provincial Journeyperson in a Construction Trade and/or Fourth Class Power Engineer License would all be considered assets
  • Professional designations in Facilities or Maintenance Management would be considered assets
